My Purpose

For most of the pandemic I lived alone. Being quarantined from others, I became even more touch starved than I was before. I say “more touch starved” because outside of romantic partners, it was/is rare for me to touch another human being in any significant way. In our culture, we don’t often touch our friends beyond a brief hug. Later in the pandemic, my adult niece moved in with me, but we rarely touched each other. I can count on one hand the number of times we’ve hugged.

A few months into lockdown, I broke my solo bubble and allowed an acquaintance in my apartment to use my bathroom. After he left, I texted him to ask if he would be willing to cuddle with me since we had already entered each others’ air space. He immediately said “no” because he didn’t want to have sex with me. I explained that I wasn’t asking to have sex; I was just asking to be held and to touch another person’s skin. Of course he had the right to say no, but he didn’t really comprehend what I was asking for. It’s hard for many people to fathom consensual sensual non-romantic touch that doesn’t end with a sexual encounter. That needs to change. In that moment I knew that after the pandemic there would be thousands of touch deprived people in need of the healing power of touch. It was the beginning of my desire to study somatic bodywork, tantra, and other healing touch practices.

My Mission

I founded The Green Goddess Studio to create a loving, safe, open, welcoming space for everyone to heal. As a cis gender person I am creating a healing environment that welcomes every one and every body of all shapes and sizes with no judgement. It is my intention that Green Goddess Studio becomes a place for real connection and healing. Please contact me with any questions you may have so you feel comfortable joining us. See more about me and Our Welcome Policy below. Welcome!

She’s black, but you don’t have to be. Just know that this space centers and affirms Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC).

She’s a cis-gender heterosexual woman (she, her, they), but you don’t have to be. This space welcomes people of all gender and sexual orientation expressions.

She’s able-bodied and not all that flexible, but you don’t have to be. People of all ability levels are welcome here. We do our best to make accommodations, but we’re not disability experts. We will do our best to meet your needs so that you feel included in the space, but we may need some guidance.

She’s considered “overweight” by her doctor, but your size does not matter. Your body is beautiful and deserving of healing and community no matter the shape or size. Come as you are.

She doesn’t follow any organized religion, but you are free to believe and practice what calls to your spirit. Classes offered at the studio, including yoga, are not religious practices. We offer wellness classes that support a healthy lifestyle.

She has never been to prison, but it’s okay if you have. We support people who have been caught up in the injustice system.

We are co-creators of our shared space. As such, we pledge to adhere to the ethics outlined and to communicate, and agree to any additions we feel are important prior to engaging in the work.
